If you’re thinking about starting a home essential oil business, you probably don’t want to invest a lot of money on essential oil production equipment. Just because you don’t have the necessary stills doesn’t imply you won’t be able to complete the project. Steam distillation may be done in your kitchen using a crockpot, which is quite convenient.   • 2-4 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Stevia
  • 1-2 drops of Ginger Essential Oil
  • Optional: blueberries as garnish It’s optional, however I like to add a drop or two of Lemon Essential Oil as well


Fill your Jar to the brim with icy water! This cocktail is best served ice cold, in my opinion. Add the Apple Cider Vinegar and mix well. To be really honest, I don’t actually measure how much of each item I add to the water since I don’t want to waste any. I recommend using 2-4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, but in practice I only need a few of sloshes. After that, I add the teaspoon of Stevia (I haven’t experimented with any other sweetening choices yet). Please let me know if you try something new, such as honey, in the comments section.

Ginger essential oil has a powerful flavor, so start with 1 drop, stir, and then add another drop if you want it to be even more potent.

We humans have known the value of plants in our lives for thousands of years. Whether it was for food, shelter or medical purposes our forefathers learnt how to use and optimize the advantages of these plants via trial and error and by applying what they had learned. In reality, neither humans nor plants would live if photosynthesis, the exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen that occurs with every breath we take, were not present. Approximately 3000 years ago, humans began experimenting with distillation, and as the world progressed, distillation became increasingly significant in four areas: labs, industry, herbs for fragrance and medicine, and food processing.

The following are three of the most often utilized ways of essential oil extraction that I will share with you:


Steam distillation is the most widely used process for extracting and isolating essential oils from plants for use in natural goods, and it is also the most expensive. This occurs when steam vaporizes the volatile chemicals in the plant materials, which are then collected after going through a condensation and collecting procedure. 1) The plant material is stored in a big container known as a STILL, which is also heated with the addition of steam. 2) Steam is pumped into the plant material containing the required oils through an intake, causing the aromatic molecules in the plant material to be released and turned into vapor, which is then expelled.

Here, two distinct pipelines allow hot water to escape and cold water to enter the condenser, allowing for a more efficient system.

Because oil and water don’t mix, the aromatic liquid accumulates in the separator and the essential oil floats to the top of the container.

It is then siphoned away from here. The steam distillation process is employed in WCB oils such as lavender, sandalwood, rosemary, cedarwood, and other similar scents.


Essential oils are extracted from plant material using food-grade solvents such as hexane and ethanol, according to this process. Specifically, this method is best suited for plant materials that yield low amounts of essential oils, particularly those that are incapable of enduring the pressure and distress of steam distillation. When compared to other distillation methods, this approach yields a finer scent profile. A waxy aromatic chemical known as a “concrete” is formed after the plant material has been exposed to a solvent for a period of time.

The oil contains the aforementioned compounds that were utilized in the procedure, and this oil is used in perfumery and aromatherapy applications.


This procedure, also known as expression, is employed mostly for citrus peels, with the exception of orange peels. In the first step, the entire fruit is placed in a device that mechanically pierces it in order to burst the essential oil sacs, which are located on each side of the bottom of the rind. When the essential oil is finished, it is carried down to the collection area. 2) The juice and oil are extracted from the fruit by pressing the whole thing. 3) The oil and juice that are generated still contain particles from the fruits and must be centrifuged in order to separate the solids from the liquids once they have been extracted.

This method is used to create the bergamot, mandarin orange, and sweet orange essential oils that are utilized in the WCB mixes.

To produce this spray, you’ll need the following ingredients:

You may also use tap water for your sprays if you are unable to get distilled water
  • Simply boil the water and let it to cool before using. 30-50 drops of essential oils (depending on the oil): The smells of different manufacturers might differ significantly, which is why I recommend sampling each one before purchasing. Health food stores are a wonderful location to look for them in your neighborhood. A combination of: Siberian Fir, Douglas Fir, or pine (I like Siberian Fir), juniper berries, clove, wild orange, and cinnamon are used in the holiday spray. How to make Essential Oils

Instructions on how to create your own Essential Oils Step 1: Obtain a distillation unit for your home. For this, you’ll need a professional distillation unit. There are many of DIY still plans available on the internet, but for obvious reasons, we recommend purchasing a still from The Copper Still Company. Both the pot still and the split-top units will function properly, however the rotating column on the split-top units will perform far better than the pot still. You may place your plan materials in the upper column, where they will be separated from the water, allowing for a more straightforward and effective extraction.

Step 2: Gather all of your materials.

If you are able to cultivate it yourself, that is amazing!

Unless you do, you will be forced to rely on store-bought plants and will have no control over whether or not the plant is harvested at the optimal time.

Avoid using plant material that has been crushed or powdered.

We propose that you dry your plants in order to be able to accommodate more material into your copper still.

It is best to dry the plant gently and without direct sunlight, ideally in the shade or inside a darkened space.

For your own safety, use a very clean funnel, and make sure that whatever container you use has been thoroughly cleaned.

NOTE:Before using, combine with a carrier oil. The two most widely used oils are grape seed oil and almond oil. It is possible to have a serious skin response if you apply the essential oil directly to your skin before combining it with a carrier oil since the essential oil is so concentrated.
