The Still House is where our delectable Sugarlands Shine is created, with one foot firmly set in the past and the other firmly placed in the present. Corn and rye are ground into meal in our handcrafted stone burr mill, which is then combined with Smoky Mountain water before being transferred to our large oven. From there, the liquid is moved to the fermenter, where it is allowed to boil for a few days before being strained. Eventually, the “wash” is poured into the copper pot still, where it is boiled and distilled until it becomes alcoholic.

During the distillation process, alcohol vapor filters through copper pipes and rises through the plates of the distillation column. After cooling in the chilling column, the vapor is dumped into the Spirit Safe for collection, testing, and tasting.

Does the Moon Shine on Legal Moonshine?

Ole Smoky’s 128 proof product is available for purchase in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

by Graham Hoppe

Moonshine is intended to be a source of conflict. After all, it is possibly the most controversial drink in the history of American society, according to some. It is, by definition, illegal, produced by criminals, and consumed by criminals and degenerates. Its unlawful manufacturing (which is frequently carried out in the woods of some dark depression) is hazardous and, on rare occasions, lethal. In principle, moonshine may be manufactured from practically any type of hard alcohol that is made at home.

  1. Moonshine jugs with the letters XXX on them and white illumination in mason jars conjure up images of a certain place and time in the American psyche, albeit an imagined one.
  2. Old white people with long beards were not always moonshiners, despite the fact that they tend to garner the most attention these days, according to history.
  3. Is it even possible for such a thing to exist?
  4. Is it a memento, a replica, a souvenir…or just a piece of flim-flam aimed at attracting tourists?
  5. Aside from the Smoky Mountains National Park, the county is most known for serving as both Dolly Parton’s birthplace and the location of her theme park, Dollywood.
  6. What started out as a collection of lodges and restaurants to accommodate tourists to the National Park has grown into an extravagant collection of attractions, each one more spectacular than the one before it.
  7. Tennessee’s distilling industry grew significantly in 2009, becoming a thriving industry.

The only counties where alcohol could be legally distilled before then were Moore (which is also a dry county), Coffee, and Lincoln, all of which are grouped in the southern region of the state and are home to Jack Daniel’s, George Dickel’s, and Prichard’s Distillery, respectively.

Tennessee distilleries Sugarlands Distilling and Doc Collier’s in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Legend and Jake’s Creek in Sevierville, Old Forge Distillery in Pigeon Forge, and Thunder Road Distillery in adjacent Kodak were among the first to open in the state.

Even while the tasting rooms at Ole Smoky are arranged to seem like a true distillery, the little distilling that is done there is most likely just for the benefit of the tens of thousands of visitors that travel through the area each year.

T-shirts appear to be just as popular a buy as alcoholic beverages, which is appropriate for a holiday resort.

A meet-and-greet with famous moonshiners who have been on Discovery Channel’s reality program “Moonshiners” is available at Sugarlands Distilling Company, whose storefront distillery was constructed entirely of wood reclaimed from local barns and farmhouses, according to the company.

If the genuine moonshiners are not there, cardboard cutouts of the moonshiners will meet you at the door.

It’s the same sensation you get when you’re listening to commercial country music radio stations (Dierks Bentley is an endorser of Ole Smoky).

The product is now accessible in all 50 states as well as 30 nations after only six years in the market.

More than a half-dozen more distilleries are expected to launch in the near future, continuing the tradition of Pigeon Forge, where everything worth doing is worth going beyond.

I’m sorry to say that I’m still not certain about everything.

Some distilleries are selling white maize whiskey, which is made from corn.

Among the most popular is neutral grain spirits, which are formally known as pure ethanol or, more often, vodka; this is the most prevalent type of spirit.

Ole Smoky even has a taste called “Harley Davidson Roadhouse Custom Moonshine” that is made just for the roadhouse.

Most of the time, the items created from corn whiskey and/or sugar are superior than the ethanol-based ones, which taste like whatever flavoring ingredient was used in the manufacturing process (basically like sugary cough syrup).

It isn’t authenticity that the distilleries in East Tennessee are peddling; rather, it is a kind of folkloric fiction.

Early fears that the sale of alcoholic beverages would harm Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg’s family-friendly reputation have been allayed by the cash generated in the form of municipal, state, and federal taxes—something that did not come with the sale of actual alcoholic beverages.

Earnhardt family partners with Sugarlands Moonshine

Distribute this information on the internet! By Matt Courson, a staff writer for the Associated Press BRISTOL, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee at Bristol is launching a new website. Sugarlands Distilling Co. will soon have a product with a last name that is well-known in the NASCAR community: Sugarlands. Dale and Amy Earnhardt, along with Ned Vickers (President and Founder of Sugarlands Distilling), announced a strategic partnership on Saturday afternoon, prior to the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol.

As a result of the relationship, one of Sugarlands’ hallmark products, The Electric Orange Sippin’ Cream, will now be marketed as Dale and Amy’s Electric Orange Sippin’ Cream.

The 40-proof drink beverage has a vibrant, fresh orange zest flavor with a creamy vanilla cream flavor that is pleasing to the palate.

“The Electric Orange Sippin’ Cream has quickly become one of our favorites, and we’re pleased to have our names on it,” Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Ned’s ideas and enthusiasm inspired us from the moment we first met him.” We’re excited to begin this cooperation, and we’re looking forward to seeing where it takes us in the future.” Sugarlands Distilling began operations in 2014 and has already established a presence in the NASCAR marketing industry.

  1. Previous commemorative goods have been issued to mark significant anniversaries at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway, respectively.

Moonshine Tasting at Sugarlands Distilling Co.

Sugarlands Distilling Co. is one of my favorite sites to visit when in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and I highly recommend it. They offer the greatest tasting moonshine I’ve ever had, and they’re conveniently located on the main strip in the Smoky Mountains. Sugarlands has a really spacious storefront, which is convenient. Guests may stroll in and peruse their moonshine and branded clothes, or they can sit back and listen to live music on their outdoor stage at the back of the building. Every time my wife and I travel to Gatlinburg, she makes it a point to remind me that I must visit Sugarlands.

  • She isn’t bothered by the fact that I am participating in the moonshine tasting since she prefers the shady outside area where we are waiting.
  • After learning about the process, move over to the main front area and sit at one of the several circular bars to participate in a tasting session.
  • The samples are quite brief, so even if you have to wait, it won’t be too lengthy for your taste buds.
  • Before you are given your taste, the bartender will explain you a little bit about each moonshine flavor.
  • Even the bartenders will explain you how it is created and what ingredients are used.
  • Never be afraid to put yourself out there and ask a question!
  • Whenever the bartender comes around the bar with a new moonshine flavor, you may just hold your palm over your cup to indicate that you do not wish to drink that particular flavor, and he will skip past you.

If you do, plan on leaving with a good buzz on your mind.

When you take a bite of that one, prepare yourself for a burning sensation.

One of my other favorite cocktails is Old Fashioned Lemonade, which has 40 percent alcohol by volume.

There’s a moonshine for that, too, it turns out.

It is also possible to find Pumpkin Spice – 40 proof moonshine, which is rather good.

Moonshine is used for a variety of purposes other than drinking.

Although I haven’t tried it yet, it is on our to-try list.

Tour Sugarlands Distillery in Gatlinburg – Learn the Science of Moonshine

Once upon a time, two strangers ascended to the steep summit in search of a moonshine still. Strangers haven’t returned from the rocky summit, and it’s likely that they never will. Corn will not grow at all on a rocky top because the soil is just too rough. That’s why everyone on rocky top eats maize from a jar instead than growing it themselves.

Moonshine is as important to East Tennessee as beer is to the city of Milwaukee. You are under no obligation to consume it. However, you are most likely required to be aware of it. ‘White Lightning’ has been woven into the fabric of Tennessee history, from songs to movies to television shows. If you are traveling with your children along the Gatlinburg Parkway, you have two possibilities. You can choose to ignore the moonshine vendors, or you can visitSugarlands Distilleryand receive a little scientific and historical education.

Sugarland Distillery is quite popular among those over the age of 21 (thanks to the free samples!).

It has been two years since Sugarlands Distillery, which is owned by locals and located on the Gatlinburg Parkway, first opened its doors. The trip is suitable for families and is available to people of all ages. Our tour guide was just charming in every way. He kept us interested with stories during the quick tour (which will only take you 15 minutes at the most), and he was especially attentive to the children in our group, which we appreciated.

  • There are a few phases in the procedure.
  • The maize is then blended with sugar and yeast to form’sour mash,’ which is then fermented.
