You have complete control over how much you scale this up or down. Don’t feel obligated to purchase a full quart jar of vodka infused with herbs and spices. I believe you will find additional applications for it, but if you are concerned about the cost or quantity, please reduce it and begin with a pint! You are not required to use the best of the best vodka for this recipe, but you should avoid using the cheapest of the cheapest. Inquire with the clerk at your local liquor store about a mid-range vodka that is suitable for sipping or mixing in cocktails.

  • Fresh strawberries that have been washed, dried, and hulled
  • Fresh basil leaves that have been rinsed and dried
  • Good quality vodka

Also needed:

  • Cut the strawberries into pieces and place them in the jar, arranging the basil leaves in between the strawberry pieces to make a pretty display. Not to squash, but rather to fill it completely and to within 1/2-inch of the jar’s rim, you should use your hands to pack the strawberries in tightly. An important point to remember regarding the Basil: Add 2 big or 4 little basil leaves to a quart-sized mason jar. Add 1 big or 2 little basil leaves to make a pint of pesto. In a separate bowl, combine the vodka and water. Ensure that the lid is securely fastened to the jar and shake it violently 4 or 5 times. Allow the vodka to infuse for three days in a cool, dark location. Open the jar and take a smell… Does it have a strong strawberry scent to it? You’re all set! For up to a year, you may store it in an airtight container in a cold, dark spot where the temperature does not change too much. In order to ensure maximum flavor preservation, drain off the fruit and basil and place them in a freezer-safe container with a tight-fitting cover.

Cocktail

  • 12-15 fresh blueberries
  • 2 ounces whiskey
  • 1-2 ounces ginger beer
  • 1 lemon wedge
  • 2 tablespoons organic sugar

Garnish

  • Lemon and sugar should be muddled together in a cocktail shaker. Blueberries should be added last and muddled until all of the blueberries are crushed.
