While on vacation, the Godfather and I passed across a restaurant that served only moonshine cocktails, which we thought was interesting. On one of our visits, we tasted this apple pie moonshine drink, which was delicious. We were at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’restaurant in Orlando, and we split one of their signature drinks. To be honest with you, I had to recreate it for you. You’ll understand why after just one drink.

What ingredients will I need?

Apple pie moonshine is the most important element in creating an apple pie moonshine drink. Moonshine tasting like apple pie may be found at your local liquor shop or online. In most cases, I’ve discovered it near the vodkas. Besides vanilla vodka, apple cider, and simple syrup, the following components are also included. The Manhattan Moonshine was delicious on its own, but we thought it would be even better with some of the thyme simple syrup we had made with fresh thyme from our garden. The fragrant sweetness of the thyme syrup complements the nutty spice of the moonshine drink well. This thyme cocktail is brightened by the addition of fresh lemon juice, which also has a nice acidic note.

The Thyme to Shine cocktail is a refreshing summer sipper that combines herbal freshness with a boozy edge in a glass.

Ingredients

  • 2.50 oz of thyme simple syrup, 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 3 drops orange bitters, and 1 egg white are all you need to make this cocktail.

Thyme Simple Syrup

  • 3 cups water, 1 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves

Instructions

1-tablespoon fresh thyme leaves; 1-cup sugar; 1-cup water

For the Thyme Simple Syrup

In a small saucepan, combine the water and the sugar and bring to a boil over medium heat. Once it comes to a boil, remove it from the heat and add the thyme leaves. Allow for 10-15 minutes of steeping time before straining out the leaves. Allow for cooling. Keep in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.

Add the moonshine and lemonade and whisk well before adding a large ball of ice.

Watermelon Mint Shine

Ingredients for the recipe from Dark Corner Distillery 2 ounces of moonshine Agar nectar (you may substitute simple syrup if you can’t get it) 1 cup (or more) agave nectar Watermelon chunks (three pieces) 3 lime wedges (optional) 5 sprigs of mint Directions: In a mixing glass, muddle the mint leaves, lime wedges, and agave nectar until well combined. Shake vigorously after adding the ice, watermelon, and moonshine. Pour the mixture into a Collins glass. Garnish with a mint leaf and a slice of watermelon, if desired.

Salty Apple

Dark Corner Distillery provided the recipe. Apple Pie moonshine (two ounces) is used as an ingredient. 2 oz. freshly squeezed grapefruit juice Instructions: Build the drink in an Old Fashioned glass with a salt rim over ice and serve immediately. Garnish with a lime wheel once you’ve stirred everything together.

Ginger Snap

Image courtesy of Fizzyzist.com Apple Pie Moonshine (two ounces) is used in this recipe. 4 ounces of high-quality ginger ale (try Blenheims, for the spice) Directions: Create the drink in a Ball jar filled with ice. Garnish with a piece of green apple once you’ve finished stirring.

Moonshine Margarita

Ole Smoky Tennessee MoonshineIngredients recipe and photo courtesy of the company. 2 ounces of moonshine 1 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice 1 ounce of simple syrup 1 ounce of triple sec Directions: Combine all of the ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Pour into a Ball jar with a salt-rim and serve over ice. Serve with a wedge of lime for garnish.

Margarita moonshine drink recipe with Ole Smoky

Because it is Cinco de Mayo today, I thought it would be the perfect moment to debut this mini series and offer you the very first chapter of “Moonshine Mixin’s.” I hope you enjoy it. Now, I’d want to make a couple of brief disclaimers before we get started. These concoctions are loosely based on some of Ole Smokyofficial ®’s recipes, which may be found on the company’s website or picked up at one of their locations. The recipes I’m presenting today were simplified based on what I had on hand or what I could locate at my local grocery store at the time.

I was born and raised in the South.

Allow me to state unequivocally that the measuring cup in my kitchen is not frequently used if at all.

Everyone’s palate is unique, and these recipes allow you to quickly tailor them to your preferences.

We’ll get right down to business now that that’s out of the way. This recipe is really straightforward, yet it happens to be one of my favorite beverages to date. A margarita, on the other hand, is almost impossible to go wrong with.

Moonshine margarita ingredients

  • Salt, Margarita mix, and Ole Smoky original moonshine are all required. Simple syrup
  • Lime juice or the juice of a fresh lime
  • Ice cubes

Moonshine margarita instructions

  1. To make a margarita, salt a wide-rimmed glass and pour in 2 parts margarita mix. Simple syrup (to taste) should be added to 1 part Ole Smoky authentic moonshine. Taste and adjust the amount of lime juice. Pour over a large amount of ice
  2. Optional garnishes include fresh lime juice.

For the simple syrup, I went a little overboard because I prefer things to be sweet. If you want yours sourer, pour in a little more lime juice and reduce the amount of syrup you use. It is only as good as you make it! As an aside, in case you were wondering, there is a Margarita flavor of moonshine that can be consumed straight up on the rocks as well. However, I like this method since it is straightforward and more general if you only have a few bottles of “plain” moonshine on hand. Enjoy responsibly, and have a wonderful Cinco de Mayo, everyone!
