How To Store Moonshine?

What’s the Best Way to Store Moonshine? Store it in sealed glass bottles in a dark location away from direct sunlight. Glass keeps the flavor authentic while preventing spoilage. If you want to store the moonshine for a long time, refrigerate it.

Are you supposed to refrigerate moonshine?

Moonshine doesn’t require refrigeration for storage but storing your moonshine in a fridge won’t damage your spirits. The only elements that can change your moonshine are light, heat, and oxygen if your bottle is opened. If your moonshine is exposed to any of these elements, the flavor can be affected.

How do you store moonshine in a Mason jar?

Ideally, it isn’t too good to store an open jar of moonshine for too long because the taste might change after some time. To properly store your moonshine, simply stack it in a dark area that doesn’t endure too many temperature changes.

How long can you store homemade moonshine?

In an airtight container, it should last 3 – 4 months in the back of your refrigerator. If you seal your jars properly in your mason jars, they can last up to three years. Properly sealed jars of moonshine do not need to be stored in the refrigerator until they are opened.

What temperature should you store moonshine?

Your best bet is storing your liquor at room temperature – but if you want to get really technical, experts recommend keeping it within 55 to 60 degrees.

Does homemade moonshine go bad?

The significant part of consuming moonshine is the alcohol content, which is way above the standard limit. Hence, this unique drink doesn’t go wrong, and neither does it spoil.

What part of moonshine is toxic?

Methyl alcohol (methanol) is the bad stuff that could be found in moonshine (or any distilled spirit for that matter). Pure methanol is very dangerous and it is definitely able to cause blindness and even kill people. As little as 10 ml of pure methanol could blind someone and as little as 30 ml could kill someone.

Can moonshine be stored in plastic containers?

You can store a lot more moonshine, for a lot less, in plastic containers compared to glass ones. Plus, they’re durable and less likely to break if dropped. The main disadvantage is that plastic containers can melt. You’ll want to keep them away from hot temperatures, direct sunlight, and open flames.

Can you put moonshine in plastic jars?

Due to its high alcohol content, some people assume that moonshine will burn through plastic, which is why they use glass jars instead. However, the truth is that moonshine will not burn through plastic. While moonshine isn’t going to burn a hole in a plastic jug, an open flame certainly will.

Can you store alcohol in Mason jars?

Alcohol. Various alcoholic drinks like gin and whiskey can be stored in mason jars. Due to the airtight seal, they can be protected from air — oxygen can affect the flavor and aroma of alcohol. However, alcohol-containing mason jars should be stored in a dark area.

What is the best fruit to put in moonshine?

But you can subdue its potent taste by flavoring it with almost any fruit, including watermelon, peach, strawberry, raspberry, apple, lime or lemon. Just remember to add your fruit of choice while making the moonshine in order to avoid reducing the alcohol content.

How did people go blind from moonshine?

One common concern with moonshine is lead poisoning, which has been linked to blindness. Today the most common cause of blindness from drinking is methanol. Methanol, otherwise known as methyl alcohol or wood alcohol, can damage the optic nerve and even kill you in high concentrations.

Why was moonshine made illegal?

So why is moonshine still illegal? Because the liquor is worth more to the government than beer or wine. Uncle Sam takes an excise tax of $2.14 for each 750-milliliter bottle of 80-proof spirits, compared with 21 cents for a bottle of wine (of 14 percent alcohol or less) and 5 cents for a can of beer.

How much alcohol can you store at home?

So, the law states that no ‘individual’ can stock more than 18 litres of wine, beer, cider and alcopop and 9 litres of Indian and foreign liquor (whiskey, rum, gin, vodka) at home or for parties.

How should spirits be stored?

How to properly store alcohol at home

  1. Wine, spirits, and liqueurs should be kept in cool, dark places.
  2. Opened bottles will deteriorate over time due to oxidation and can lose flavor, color, and in some cases, spoil.
  3. Aromatized wines like vermouth and Amaro need to be refrigerated once opened.

How long can you leave fruit in moonshine?

For flavoring alcohol you want to soak for a minimum of six weeks, but here often longer is better. The taste will change over time, usually getting “rounder” or even change significantly from the original taste of the chosen fruit + alcohol combination.

If you don’t want to consume your entire batch of moonshine immediately after it’s been distilled, you’ll need to preserve it correctly so that you may enjoy it later. As long as you brewed the moonshine correctly, it will keep for several years in a dark place. A batch of white lightning that has been poorly stored, on the other hand, may spoil or deteriorate, leaving you with a wasted batch of white lightning. Plastic vs Glass

People believe that moonshine will burn through plastic because of its high alcohol level, therefore they store it in glass jars instead of plastic. The reality is, however, that moonshine will not burn through plastic containers. In order to endure strong chemicals, plastic materials are intended to be resistant to them, and they can even tolerate hydrofluoric acid. As a result, if you pour moonshine into a plastic bottle or jug, you won’t have to worry about it burning a hole in the bottom of the container.

Using plastic to store moonshine has certain downsides, one of which being the danger of accidently melting the plastic if it is placed too close to an open flame or other source of heat. While moonshine will not burn a hole in a plastic container, an open flame will most definitely do so. In the event that you want to keep your moonshine in plastic bottles or containers, make certain that they are kept in a cool environment where there are no open fires or heat sources nearby.

Stick With Glass For Long-Term Storage

  1. It is possible that storing moonshine in plastic containers for an extended period of time will cause the flavor to alter.
  2. When moonshine is stored in a plastic container, it may have a vinyl-like smell and scent, which you may detect.
  3. You should use glass containers for long-term storage of moonshine if you are serious about making it and want to make the best beverage possible.
  4. It is safer, more heat resistant, and a better all-around choice when compared to other materials such as plastic.

Avoid Sunlight

Another important piece of advice for keeping moonshine is to keep it away from direct sunlight whenever possible. Sunlight will pierce through any container, glass or plastic, and actually cook the contents within. This is true whether your moonshine is stored in a glass or plastic container. As a result, the moonshine spoils at a higher rate than it would otherwise. By storing your moonshine in a dark, cold place with little to no exposure to sunlight, you may avoid this problem. The flavor and alcohol content of your moonshine will be preserved if it is stored properly.

Just remember to keep your moonshine in glass containers for long-term storage and to keep it out of direct sunlight.

  • With a traditional moonshine jar, you can store your moonshine in the proper manner.
  • Moonshine has evolved from the days of the early American pioneers to become a vital element of American culture.
  • More than a century later, the practice of making moonshine is still in existence.
  • It appears that moonshining is becoming more popular, as seen by the abundance of moonshine recipes and how-to manuals accessible online.
  • More and more individuals are becoming aware of the fact that they may simply manufacture their own alcoholic beverages at home with the aid of a few simple components.

It provides a unique flavor to the drink, and many people find it to be preferable to the traditional alcoholic beverage. When it comes to creating moonshine, there is a precise procedure that must be followed, and a moonshine jar is an essential component.

It Helps Keep the Taste In

The most common material used to construct a moonshine jar is glass. When you manufacture moonshine, it is critical that you preserve it for a period of time, which can range from a few days to many weeks, depending on the technique you choose. It is important to store the shine in a glass moonshine jar to ensure that the flavor develops correctly and remains consistent.

You Can Tell When It Has Aged

The advantage of utilizing a glass jar is that you can see the contents of what is being stored on the inside. Whether it comes to moonshine, it is critical to recognize when it has “aged” properly and is ready to be drunk. The use of a glass jar allows you to accomplish exactly that while also seeing the subtle change in color of the moonshine as it “ages.” Moonshine does not genuinely mature; nonetheless, it is held for a period of time to let the flavor to develop correctly; however, the storage duration is far less than that of wine.

Develops a Better Taste

  1. The thing with moonshine jars is that they are manufactured expressly for the purpose of making moonshine.
  2. As a result, they are designed with the storage and development of flavor in mind for the greatest moonshine.
  3. Storing moonshine in an appropriate container, such as a moonshine jar, will help to guarantee that its flavor is developed in the proper manner.

Keeps the Moonshine Secure

With a moonshine jar, you may securely keep the moonshine at either a cold or room temperature for several months. With a plastic bottle, however, this may not be the case. The jar guarantees that the moonshine remains how it should be, without turning bad or anything else going wrong with the batch.

It Looks Much Cooler

Whenever you think of moonshine, you automatically think of a mason jar. The two are inextricably linked. When you drink moonshine from a mason jar, it simply appears a little more appealing. Not only does it keep the moonshine fresh, but the jar also gives it the “genuine” moonshine feel that you would receive if you were drinking moonshine during the Prohibition time.

Quality Moonshine Ages Better

  • If you are new to the process of manufacturing moonshine, you will quickly discover that there are several strategies and methods to experiment with.
  • Until you have gained the necessary knowledge and expertise, you will be unable to create the perfect alcoholic beverages.
  • Moonshine that is of good grade will last longer than low-quality spirits since these items are correctly distilled and contain high alcohol concentrations.
  • If a low-quality moonshine is kept for more than a year, the flavor and scent will quickly deteriorate and become unrecognizable.

In order to make the best moonshine possible, one that will hold its flavor for decades to come, it is necessary to invest in a high-quality moonshine-making kit. Using a quality kit lets you to have far more control over your brewing and to consistently produce the correct mix.

The Best Moonshine Still Kit To Buy

How to Store Moonshine in A Jar

Moonshine is considered to be one of the most potent alcoholic beverages. It is not subject to expiration or spoilage, and many feel that as long as the fluid is contained in an appropriate jar and stored under adequate circumstances, it should be able to endure eternally. In order to be able to preserve your moonshine in a jar, you must first bottle it in a high-quality jar.

How Do You Bottle Moonshine In A Jar?

A succession of clean, sanitized jars will be required in order to bottle moonshine in a jar successfully. When the moonshine has completely cooled down, you can simply pour it into the jar and seal it. Moonshine has a very high alcohol content, and the high alcohol content will destroy any germs that may have accumulated in the jar throughout the fermentation process. This implies that you will not need to sanitize or boil your jars before keeping moonshine in them in the future.

Simply pour your moonshine into the clean jars and tightly seal them, and your product is finished and ready to be stored.

The Right Way to Store Moonshine

  • Moonshine has a long shelf life if it is stored properly, which requires the correct circumstances.
  • When your spirits are exposed to heat, light, and variations in air pressure, the properties of your spirits might alter.
  • It’s not a good idea to keep an open jar of moonshine for an extended period of time because the flavor may begin to alter after some time.
  • For optimal storage of your moonshine, simply stack it in a dark place that will not be subjected to extreme temperature fluctuations.

If you want to keep moonshine for as long as possible, your kitchen pantry or even food cupboards are ideal storage locations.

If you’re a drinker, there’s a good possibility you have more than one bottle of booze in your possession. Or perhaps you have bottles stashed throughout your home, whether in cupboards, on shelves, or even buried in the back of the freezer (we won’t judge!). Whatever the case, we hope you enjoy your libations! For those who wish to know the most effective method of preserving the flavor of their liquor, here are the best storage practices to follow.

1. Keep it at Room Temperature

  • Since most distilled spirits have a high percentage of alcohol, they do not need to be refrigerated.
  • Examples of such spirits are whiskey, vodka, gin, rum, and tequila.
  • However, if the temperature rises over a certain point, the alcohol will expand and eventually evaporate.
  • Although it will not cause the liquor to “go bad,” heat, particularly from direct sunshine, can accelerate the oxidation process, altering the flavor and changing the color of the liquor.
  • What about the option of freezing?

Naturally, some individuals like to cool clear liquors in their refrigerators before serving them, but this may be a mistake, according to certain industry professionals who disagree. However, while there is no danger of your spirit freezing to ice (since the alcohol percentage is too high), keeping spirits at lower temperatures might dilute tastes that you would otherwise like, such as flower essences and other botanicals. In reality, the flavor of many cocktails is increased by the ice cubes in the glass melting due to the room-temperature liquor.

The melting of the ice produces a delicate equilibrium that brings out the tastes of the liquor.

If you add ice to a drink that is already cold, it simply will not have the same effect. Room temperature is the ideal option; but, if you want to be very precise, experts recommend keeping your booze between 55 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Take Measures to Prevent Oxidation

Spirits that have not been opened can endure for years if they are stored correctly, but once they have been opened, they become more susceptible to oxidation. As previously stated, as the ratio of air to liquid rises, the flavors and color of a liquor might alter, as can its appearance. So, if you have less than one-third of your liquor left in the bottle, your best chance is to either finish it off or shift it to a smaller container until you have finished it. And while we’re at it, let’s not forget about the decanter.

While your bourbon may seem lovely in a crystal bottle, it is likely to oxidize more quickly if left in this container for an extended period of time. If possible, keep your spirits in their original bottles, and save the decanter display for special occasions.

3. Store Upright, But Don’t Forget to Wet the Cork

  1. Although it is against the regulations for wine, it is never acceptable to store liquor on its side in a liquor cabinet.
  2. When high-proof alcohol is kept horizontally, the persistent contact between the alcohol and the cork might lead to the demise of your favorite spirit.
  3. If left untreated, this configuration can actually cause the cork to dissolve over time, resulting in the cork becoming mixed with your whiskey.
  4. Yuck.
  5. While doing so, you should avoid allowing the cork to dry out and split, as this will result in a similar situation.

It is preferable to keep your bottles upright, but you should turn the bottle upside down every now and again to re-wet the cork. You won’t be surprised by any unpleasant shocks the next time you decide to enjoy a glass or two of wine! Technically speaking, booze never truly goes bad – and keeping it wrongly will not get you sick either. However, it can have an impact on how your favorite alcoholic beverage tastes and matures in the future.

Consider purchasing smaller bottles of the spirits that you don’t use as frequently and investing in a fashionable bar cart or liquor cabinet to store them in. • It looked to have been produced during the Prohibition era, and much of it was still edible at the time.
  • I go through a fifth of ‘ever-clear’ (which is 190 proof) every couple of weeks, and it can be kept pretty much anyplace without freezing.
  • When you take the top off, you’ll notice that a metal screen has been placed to the bottle to act as a flame arrester.

So even if you were smoking while holding an open bottle in your hand, the vapors may ignite, but the flames would not be able to enter the bottle. When it comes to storing shine, I would not be concerned because a tightly fitting lid is all that is required. I do have a vino-meter, which measures the amount of alcohol in a beverage from 0 to 20%. I have a hydrometer that is designed particularly for measuring alcohol concentrations ranging from 20 percent to 100 percent. It is possible to obtain these sorts of equipment for your personal usage if you are curious about how powerful it is.

Understanding the ‘proofing’ approach makes determining whether or not your shine is up to ‘proof’ simple. It’s time to light it. Before a beverage becomes flammable, it must contain at least 50 percent alcohol. If the contents of your shotglass can be ignited, you may be confident that it is at least 50 percent or 100 proof. Keep in mind that depending on where the flame originated, you may not always be able to see it. Consequently, light it, and even if you don’t see a flame, always test it by running your palm over the glass first.

  1. I’ve seen men lose their beards after drinking something that was on fire, but they didn’t realize they were drinking anything on fire.
  2. In theory, if the proof of a beverage is greater than 100, you should avoid drinking too much of it (at least unless your used to it).
  3. Some people report that it is dehydrating.

To safely consume burning beverages while wearing hair oil in your hair, swiftly sneek up on the glass from beneath it, tilt your head back so that the drink is poured into your mouth and that the flames stay away from your eyebrows and facial hair, and exhale until the glass is placed down.

Overall, moonshine is not toxic in the same way that other distilled spirits are not. Unless you’re dealing with a flavored version of moonshine, this indicates that the product will last indefinitely (which can spoil as a result of its high sugar density). I’ll go over everything you need to know about moonshine, including its shelf life, so you can get the most enjoyment out of your spirits in the coming weeks. How Long Does Moonshine Stay Good For?

  1. Most of the time, you won’t have to be concerned with whether or not your moonshine is still excellent.
  2. The reason behind this is that most moonshines have an unlimited shelf life, meaning they will never truly go bad if you don’t open them before they expire.
  3. Why?
  4. It’s actually rather straightforward.
  5. Moonshine, in contrast to most other alcoholic beverages, is substantially distilled.
  6. In addition, because moonshines that have completed the distillation process contain no sugars, they are unable to deteriorate.

Essentially, this form of pure moonshine may be stored for as long as it is required (making the drink well worth the investment, legal issues aside). But bear in mind that not all moonshines are made equal, which is a crucial distinction to remember.. Especially in the case of commercial moonshines, sugar is often added to enhance the flavor, which reduces the shelf life of the product. Despite the fact that these moonshines may be stored for several years, they will ultimately go bad, therefore the sooner you consume them, the greater the results.

How Do You Know When Moonshine Goes Bad?

Are you unsure whether or not your moonshine has gone bad? There are a few frequent warning indicators that you should be on the lookout for. Let’s have a look at some examples:

Foul Taste

  • Taking a drink of your moonshine and testing the flavor will not harm you as long as your container is properly maintained and sealed (assuming it was distilled correctly, that is).
  • Despite the fact that moonshine is not strictly hazardous, it will have a nasty taste if it “goes bad.
  • ” A bad taste in your mouth after opening a bottle of moonshine indicates that the bottle has been sitting for a long period of time.
  • Also see: How to Make Moonshine: A Step-by-Step Guide

Open Container

The consumption of any unsealed container of moonshine or other distilled spirits should be avoided at all costs. However, even while moonshine does not suffer from oxidation in the same manner as ageable spirits do, the procedure can nonetheless have an impact on the flavor of the moonshine.

REMEMBER: Generally speaking, moonshine that has been exposed to excessive amounts of air will be less enjoyable to consume (though technically not harmful to drink in moderation).

What Happens If You Drink Bad Moonshine?

Despite the fact that moonshine does not age, it is nevertheless possible to consume a tainted (or even lethal) batch. Improperly created moonshine can be hazardous from the moment it is produced until it is disposed of, even if it is disposed of many years after it was produced. According to most sources, excessive methanol concentration seen in inadequately distilled shine is the cause of this problem. If you’re unfamiliar with the words or with moonshine in general, it’s crucial to understand the distinction between the two major compounds found in the alcohol: methanol and ethanol.

Methanol, which contains just one carbon atom, is a toxic alcoholic chemical that may induce serious disease and even death if used in large quantities. Anyone who has heard of moonshiners going blind will be familiar with some of the effects that methanol may have. In addition to being dangerous in tiny amounts, methanol is also deadly, therefore drinking substandard moonshine that is high in methanol may be quite dangerous.

  1. Ethanol is the high-quality alcoholic beverage produced by the distillation process.
  2. This liquid, which contains two carbon atoms, may be hazardous if drunk too rapidly (as anybody who has ever had their stomach pumped can attest to), but it is normally safe when consumed in moderation.
  3. ethanol is responsible for the high proof of moonshine as well as the low freezing point of the drink.
  4. ethanol Briefly stated, the inclusion of methanol in a tainted batch of moonshine might result in two separate outcomes:

When methanol is eaten, it destroys the optic nerve, resulting in lifelong blindness (and even sometimes during the distillation process).

Because methanol has no particular flavor, it is possible to swallow a lethal quantity of moonshine without understanding what you are doing. VERY IMPORTANT: Because incorrectly manufactured moonshine may be quite deadly, you should make certain that you are purchasing your shine from a reputable vendor in order to guarantee that it has not gone bad at any point throughout its production.

Does Moonshine Have to be Refrigerated?

  1. Storage of moonshine in the refrigerator will not harm it, but these strong spirits should not be kept in the refrigerator at any time.
  2. There are certain advantages to refrigeration, such as the lack of light and heat, but it is preferable to save refrigerator space for more essential products (this is true whether you are using a standard refrigerator or a wine refrigerator).
  3. It should be noted that this only applies to pure moonshines.
  4. Even if you haven’t used up all of your flavored options, storing them in the refrigerator can help them last longer, especially if you’ve opened the bottle.

This is due to the fact that the cool, dark environment of the refrigerator will aid in slowing the oxidation process and preventing the sugars from rotting too rapidly.

Recall that unopened flavored moonshines may remain for years even if they are not refrigerated, so this step is actually only essential for cocktails that have previously been consumed. Also see the list of the best tiny fridges.

Does Moonshine Go Bad in the Heat?

Pure moonshine does not “go bad” in the heat if it has been properly proofed, stored, and sealed. At least, not in the usual understanding of the term. Because they lack the required elements for bacterial development, these powerful distilled spirits will never go bad—but they will alter with time, especially if they are exposed to light and heat. For the most part, this implies that while moonshine will not spoil in the heat, the flavor may vary slightly.

This is due to the fact that the chemicals that make up the moonshine will loosen and separate with time, and eventually recombine in a new arrangement. If you’re not looking for a certain flavor, this may not be a significant consideration because the alcohol concentration will not be diluted. Keeping your moonshine in a cold, dark spot where it won’t become too hot is essential if you want to keep a certain flavor profile.

A wine cellar is best, but if you don’t have one, consider storing your bottles in a cold pantry, cabinet space, or basement area where they will be protected from undesirable environmental influences.

Does Moonshine Freeze?

  1. Maintaining the temperature of your moonshine is one thing;
  2. keeping it cool is quite another.
  3. Another is to make certain that it does not freeze.
  4. Due to the high alcohol concentration (ABV) of moonshine, the latter is, fortunately, more simpler.
  5. However, while moonshine may undoubtedly be frozen, you’ll have a difficult time doing so anyplace in your house—even if you reside in Siberia.
  6. .

Traditional moonshine contains around 40 percent alcohol (or 80 proof), which means it will require temperatures of -113 degrees Celsius (-235 degrees Fahrenheit) or below to actually freeze your drinkable moonshine. Good luck with your endeavors! In fact, the water in your moonshine will freeze long before the alcohol freezes, resulting in an even higher proof moonshine than you started with.

Does Moonshine with Fruit Go Bad?

However, although pure moonshines are never going to go bad if they are created and stored correctly, moonshines containing fruit tastes are a whole different issue. In contrast to the purer spirits, which are distilled to the point of having zero percent sugar concentration, moonshine that incorporates fruit has a disproportionately high sugar concentration. This implies that they will very certainly spoil at some time in the future, particularly if they are stored incorrectly. Let’s look at some of the reasons why moonshine might go bad if it was mixed with fruit:

Alcohol Evaporation

If an opened and restored container has been exposed to air for an extended period of time, the alcohol will slowly evaporate over time. A progressive process that may not be evident in the near term, but which might become quite noticeable over a period of years, is taking place.

This process can be accelerated by storing the alcohol in a warm environment with plenty of light. Lower alcohol level means the spirit will taste weaker and be less effective in general, but that should be the least of your concerns when it comes to flavored moonshines and aging in barrels.

The most significant issue is one of oxidation. The term “oxidation” refers to the chemical process that occurs when alcohol is exposed to air and results in changes to the atomic composition of the alcohol. It is oxidation that causes flavored beverages, such as fruit-infused moonshine, to sour and lose their flavorful character over time. If this fruit moonshine is not stored correctly, it will become undrinkable, foul-tasting, and less strong as an alcoholic beverage.

Bottom Line

  • Whether you’ve discovered an old bottle of moonshine or are planning to preserve some fresh flasks of the infamous spirit for the long haul, you’ll want to know how long this infamous spirit can be kept for.
  • That said, the good news is that, as long as you’re keeping pure, properly distilled shine, you should be able to preserve it for an endless period of time, especially under the right conditions.
  • As a result, your return on investment (ROI) in moonshine is often difficult to calculate.

With flavored products, you’ll need to be extra careful with storage, but even these may survive for years if you follow the right storage rules. All of the information you might possibly want to know about the shelf life and storage of moonshine is provided in this book. You’ll be able to maintain your good moods for years to come if you follow the advice in this article! Also see: How to Prove Moonshine in 4 Simple Steps (Part 1).

Is it possible for moonshine to go bad? Moonshine, like all other basic spirits, has no expiration date. In any case, unless you’re drinking flavored moonshine, in which case the additional sugars might make it less shelf-stable. In 2010, the United States legalized moonshine, which was formerly used to refer to any illicit, home-brewed liquor. Today, it is used to describe whiskey that is clear and unaged.

Does Moonshine Expire?

  1. Standard moonshine and flavored moonshine are the two main categories of moonshine.
  2. The length of time your moonshine will last is determined on the type of moonshine you have.

Standard Moonshine

Standard moonshine, like most other basic spirits — such as rum, whiskey, brandy, gin, and vodka — is distilled until there is no leftover sugar, resulting in a product that is shelf-stable and may be stored for an unlimited period of time if left unopened. It is possible for air to begin changing the qualities of moonshine once the bottle has been opened; evaporation may even occur; nonetheless, moonshine will not go bad or expire like fresh food or even wine.

Flavored Moonshine

Flavored moonshine, such as the popular apple pie moonshine, contains additional sugars that make it less shelf-stable once opened and more susceptible to expiry — but it will still be good for a long time after it has been opened and consumed (i.e., several years). However, according to the firm Midnight Moon, the alcohol in its goods keeps the fruit fresher longer; however, it recommends against eating the fruit because it may contain a higher alcohol content than intended.

Does Moonshine Get Better With Age?

The fact that moonshine is, by definition, unaged white whiskey means that it does not undergo any maturing in oak barrels before being bottled. Because the taste attributes offered by oak are often what lead liquors to evolve over time, it’s doubtful that moonshine will improve with age — though oxidation may damage the flavors — as it does with wine.

This holds true for flavored moonshine as well. So, in short, your moonshine is the best it’s ever going to be when you buy it – so enjoy it while you can!

How to Store Moonshine

  1. It is not necessary to refrigerate moonshine, whether it is ordinary or flavored, although it will last longer if it is.
  2. Refrigerating moonshine will almost definitely not harm it.
  3. In addition, light and heat can cause slight changes in the flavor of the liquor, which is why it’s best to store it in a cold, dark spot away from direct sunlight to prevent this from happening.
  4. In addition, storing moonshine in the smallest bottle possible will assist to retain the flavor by limiting the amount of time the whiskey has to come into touch with oxygen.

The fact that historically, bootleggers’ automobiles were commonly equipped with shocks and springs to protect the bottles was a result of the way moonshine was kept. Some commercial moonshines are still following in the footsteps of their forefathers by selling moonshine in canning jars today.

In Summary

Is it possible for moonshine to go bad? Moonshine does not expire since it is one of the strongest alcoholic beverages available, yet exposure to light, heat, and air can alter the qualities of an opened bottle over time. Flavored moonshine, which contains sugar, is less shelf-stable than plain moonshine, but it can survive for several years after it has been opened. In contrast to wine, moonshine does not improve with age and is at its best when it is initially purchased (or make it).

This isn’t the illicit moonshine manufactured in bathtubs that you’re used to seeing on the news. High-proof distilled alcohol made “under the radar” is referred to as moonshine in slang. The term comes from the fact that it was generally created late at night in order to avoid being discovered by authorities. It’s really been allowed in the United States since 2010, and its definition is straightforward: it’s whiskey that hasn’t been matured. This recipe does not call for genuine moonshine, but rather Everclear, which is simpler to get by and has the same proof range as true moonshine.

How do I Make Apple Pie Moonshine?

Making apple pie moonshine is a cinch, and the results are delicious. And because it produces so much, it will last you for quite some time.

  1. Begin by heating our cider, juice, sugar, and spices to a near-boiling temperature in a large pot
  2. Allow about an hour of simmering at a low temperature
  3. Bring the temperature down to a simmer
  4. Allow the mixture to cool fully before using it.
In a large mason jar or other airtight container, combine the ingredients and keep in the refrigerator.
  • Even though you can drain out the spices, I recommend keeping at least one stick of cinnamon in each mason jar for added flavor and aroma.
  • If you like, you may omit the cinnamon and instead use around 12 cup of Fireball to give the dish a strong cinnamon flavor.

What Can I Use Instead of Everclear?

If you don’t have access to Everclear or any 190 proof grain alcohol, you may substitute any other high proof grain alcohol you can get your hands on.

There are even higher proof vodkas available that you may experiment with. Brands such as Smirnoff have even gone so far as to market higher proof versions of their vodka.

What Does Apple Pie Moonshine Taste Like?

In contrast to most recipes for apple pie moonshine, ours creates a smaller amount and uses predominantly apple cider rather than an equal blend of cider and apple juice. As a result, it has a stronger apple flavor and is thicker in texture than usual. Because of all of the spices we utilize, it has a flavor that is similar to apple pie in a glass. Because we utilize Everclear, a little amount of vodka, and a small amount of spiced rum, it also carries a significant amount of alcohol. Fortunately, the longer the apple pie moonshine is allowed to rest, the less alcohol it contains.

However, there is still a lot of booze available, so drink slowly and wisely. This moonshine is delicious shortly after it is created, but it gets much better the longer it is allowed to sit in the bottle. This apple moonshine should be made ahead of time and let to rest in the back of your refrigerator for at least 2 – 3 weeks before tasting it. You will understand why it is such a popular holiday dish! In the same vein…

How Long Does Flavored Moonshine Last?

It all depends on how you choose to preserve your apple pie moonshine, of course. Keeping it in an airtight container will allow it to survive 3 to 4 months in the back of your refrigerator. If you correctly seal your jars in your mason jars, they can survive for up to three years in storage. Moonshine jars that have been properly sealed do not need to be kept in the refrigerated until they are ready to be used. Some folks even keep their moonshine in the freezer to keep it fresh. There, it might endure for two to three years.

As a result, I like to give away a few little mason jars of moonshine to neighbors and friends, so that the moonshine doesn’t survive more than a few months at my house!

  1. I’ve just finished making 10 pints of the lovely thing and discovered that I have no idea how it’s supposed to be kept!!!! The recipe that I used was as follows: MOONSHINE WITH APPLE PIE 1 gallon of apple cider with spices 1 gallon of freshly squeezed apple juice 8-10 cinnamon sticks (about) sugar (granulated): 1 1/2 cup 1 1/2 cup light brown sugar 750 mL bottle of grain alcohol with a proof of 190 To make the soup, combine all of the ingredients (excluding the alcohol) in a big stockpot and bring to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Add the alcohol once the mixture has been allowed to cool fully. Fill sterilized mason jars with the mixture. The apple pie has been baked and is ready for eating! Warm or cold, it is a versatile dish.

I’m really pleased I came on this since I have a gallon of 190 that I’ve been storing for just such an occasion.

For the record, I’ve never seen it stored in a refrigerator. This is just a wild guess, but wouldn’t it be “canned” if you added the booze while the mixture was still hot on the burner and then filled your jars with it? Wouldn’t it be good for a long time?

Certainly, however the recipe specifies that it must be thoroughly cooled before adding the alcohol and transferring it to the jars. The lids are lowered as if they are sealed, but they are not. I really don’t know. That’s why I was hoping someone on this forum would be able to help me. I’ve been making it for nearly three years now, using a slightly altered recipe, but it’s still delicious. I have never put it in the refrigerator, and it has remained fresh for an extended period of time. When you do this, you will evaporate a significant amount of the alcohol.

  • I keep mine in the refrigerator just because I prefer it cold when I consume it.
  • Even if that’s all you’ve got, it still won’t be enough to set things right.
  • Ummmmm.
  • I’m not sure what you’re talking about with the second section.
  • Yes.
  • The apple cider will ferment and get moldy.
  • Thanks!
  • The fact that it doesn’t appear to be an issue is a bonus.
  • I was concerned about it taking up valuable refrigerator room when it comes to blackpowder season (we need a place to store the deboned meat while we prepare it for canning or freezing), but the jars are vanishing at an alarming rate!
  • LMAO!

Currently, I keep mine in the fridge because I prefer it cold as well, but I’ve had it in a cabinet without incident for quite some time before that. I’m sure he’s referring to the fact that if it doesn’t contain moonshine, it isn’t apple pie moonshine. Good moonshine is obviously not synonymous with the 190 proof stuff you can buy at the liquor shop, according to many people who have tasted it. However, this is only a hypothesis. The alcohol in mine was not purchased at a store, and I don’t believe it to be moonshine. My guess is that it’s white dog, which comes from a nearby distillery.

According to my memory, it’s around 130-140 proof. I’ve never cooked apple pie before, and I’ve been looking for a nice recipe. I’ve tried a few different kinds and only found one or two that I truly enjoyed. The others were either overly sweet or had too much cinammon in them. I’d be happy to assist you if I had one. Check out the forums at There’s a lot of useful information on that page.

It is not suggested to keep moonshine in plastic bottles for long periods of time. Glass, for example, is a considerably safer and more aesthetically pleasing alternative. You may utilize curved bottles, design your own label, and serve homemade alcohol to the joyful table as if it were a high-end beverage without having to worry about the quality of the product.

What to keep moonshine

The improper storage of alcoholic beverages at home is one of the most common causes of company failure in this industry. It is also possible that the flavor of alcohol is affected by the glass in which it is given; but, what about the bottle in which a powerful drink is kept for months or even years at a time? As a result, plastic is not the greatest material for storing moonshine. A few remarks on the subject of plastic: Over time, a low-cost container will begin to leak dangerous compounds into the environment.

Even neutral drinking water should not be stored in a plastic bottle, and alcohol is known to trigger an unanticipated chemical reaction when stored in a plastic container. Do not be deceived by the low cost of the material or the prevalence of plastic bottles of alcoholic beverages in stores; instead, consider the safety and freshness of the product.

Important Alcohol in a plastic bottle not only develops an unpleasant aftertaste and gets foggy, but it also becomes detrimental to one’s health since poisonous compounds begin to emerge from the bottle’s walls. Which containers should you use to preserve your own moonshine?

  1. It is preferable to store alcoholic beverages in a glass container or jar. Because glass does not react with alcohol, you don’t have to be concerned about the quality of your drink after drinking it. Moonshine should be preserved in dark glass containers
  2. Connoisseurs of alcoholic beverages should keep it in an aspen or oak barrel for the best results. The moonlight takes on a lovely golden tint while at this location. Such containers, on the other hand, are not ideal for storage. Moreover, they are costly, need particular settings, and even overexposed moonshine becomes difficult to process in them.
  • Because moonshine is a crystal clear liquid, turbidity and sediment in the form of flakes are indications of deterioration and should be avoided.
  • This beverage is not permitted to be ingested.
  • It is important to utilize PET bottles if there are no other options available.
  • PET is a robust material that is also recyclable.
  • However, make every effort to shift the contents to a more appropriate container within a week.
  • We propose that you use glass containers: it is OK to take previously used bottles from store beverages or to purchase new containers.

Another restriction pertains to the storage of alcoholic beverages in aluminum flasks and galvanized dishes, respectively. It is permissible to store the product in stainless steel tanks.

How to store moonshine at home

Make an effort to offer shade at home since the sun’s rays have a negative impact on the flavor and color of alcoholic beverages. Place the bottles in a dark cabinet to protect them from light. It’s no surprise that aficionados favor exclusive cellars. offers the following advice: Wrap the container of moonshine in a clear glass bottle with aluminum foil or thick paper to keep it safe. Alcohol stores well at room temperature and does not require the use of a refrigerator to do so.

Instead of clogging up the home appliances because the flat is too hot (over 20 degrees), you should store the bottles in a cold cellar. You can, but are not required to, make use of the refrigerator. However, storing items in the freezer is not suggested. Tip Try to keep the temperature of the area where the moonshine is stored from fluctuating dramatically. What is the shelf life of home brew? Strong beverages, such as whiskey, may survive up to five years under ideal circumstances; moonshine-based drinks can last up to two years.

About the cork

The use of plastic corks will have no effect on the taste or quality of the drink. Use conventional corks or components with a dispenser instead of the special ones. Don’t forget to securely seal the bottle when you’ve finished. Tip When preserving homemade cognac and other strong spirits, the same precautions should be observed as with wine. In order to appreciate the exquisite flavor of beverages, it is important to approach home production with caution and caution. Allow the purest homebrew, which has been carefully kept, to serve as your source of pride.

But keep in mind that even the highest-quality alcohol consumed in large quantities can be hazardous to one’s health if consumed in excess.

Moonshine is an alcoholic concoction that has gained popularity among cocktail enthusiasts. The drink comprises an excessive amount of whiskey that has not been subjected to the aging process. It looks and smells beautiful on the shelf, and it has a distinct aesthetic. It is also known as white lightning, and it has a powerful scent as well as a flavor that is robust. Due to the fact that fermentation does not occur in the oak barrels that give the distinctive characteristics of whiskey, the process of producing the distilled spirit is difficult. It is kept in tiny mason jars for easy storage. Furthermore, there are a large number of aficionados, and the reasons for this are obvious after tasting a liquor portion. Following that, ‘How long does moonshine keep its potency?’ comes up next.

Consequently, if you’ve been searching through the house cabinets in search of something special to drink, moonshine is the drink for you. You need to be certain that the answer will not leave you with a sick stomach, though, because the question is still open.

How Long Does Moonshine Last? Does Moonshine Go Bad?

The alcohol level of moonshine is a crucial factor in its use, as it is far higher than the legal limit. In this way, this one-of-a-kind beverage cannot go wrong and cannot be ruined either. Despite the fact that it does not have an expiration date, certain elements do alter with time. When exposed to direct heat or sunshine, the flavor and appearance of the product might alter. In addition, if there is a significant concentration of moisture in the air, the spirit is negatively impacted. If moonshine is not properly chilled or stored in a cold, dark environment, it might even lose its flavor and scent. When its strength is diminished, it also loses the characteristics that distinguish it from the other beverages on the market. If you’re giving faded spirits as gifts to your friends and family, this is an extremely bad situation. It’s much worse if you have a bottle or jar of it sitting on your shelf, forgotten about it.. Despite the fact that it is a drink reserved for a certain occasion, it must be pure in order to be truly enjoyed. It is possible to preserve the bottles in the freezer for roughly two years if they are properly sealed and packaged. Despite the fact that they are stored in the refrigerator, they may only be kept for a maximum of two months after being opened. Maintaining the freshness and vitality of the drink by storing it in the refrigerator is beneficial. Even if you chose to keep it somewhere other than the refrigerator, it will not have a significant impact on its quality. However, if you leave it open for an extended period of time, the oxygen will ruin the drink and its characteristics. There is also unflavored moonshine, which is simpler to preserve than its flavored cousin due to its lack of flavoring. The flavor additions make it more difficult since the taste may be lost by a variety of variables, and you must be extremely cautious about the storage conditions to avoid flavor degradation.

How to Tell if Moonshine is Bad?

Because it is a powerful alcoholic beverage, moonshine is not susceptible to spoiling; nonetheless, it does tend to fall flat and lose its distinctive flavor and scent with time. Moreover, just because it’s alcohol, it doesn’t always follow that it will grow better with time. As a result of not being allowed to rest in wooden barrels, the alcohol does not age and will not age further if it is stored in any other method of storage. A substantial variation in the qualities of flavored moonshine may be observed when compared to unflavored moonshine. Sugar is included in the components of flavored moonshine, making it a touch more sensitive to contamination than unflavored moonshine. As a result, if you leave a bottle unattended for an extended period of time, the sweet flavor can diminish or, even worse, decay completely. In order to enjoy the flavor of the drink for as long as possible, it is recommended that you preserve the moonshine appropriately. Purchase a little quantity at initially and then gradually add more of the alcohol, if you’re getting it from a third-party vendor or retailer. We understand that you are a huge admirer of the beverage and would like to keep it for a special occasion, but who wants to consume something that is of poor quality? Please do not become overexcited and purchase large quantities of this beverage. Last but not least, you wouldn’t want to be surprised by a sudden sensation of dissatisfaction as you bite into the finished item.

As a result, it is preferable to keep your supply under control while while maintaining a festive atmosphere. The only way to ensure that your moonshine continues to smell and taste fantastic is to make it in small batch sizes.

  1. To satisfy the ardent aficionado in you who has always enjoyed hoarding alcoholic beverages of your choosing, you must ensure that the longer you store moonshine, the less it will add to its characteristics.
  2. You may simply miss out on the distinct original scent as a result of your hoarding tendency, rather than anything else.
  3. Even if you purchase huge numbers, please make certain that they are stored properly and that you do not forget about them.
  4. You should keep in mind that fresh food is at its best quality and value when it is purchased or consumed on the same day that it is prepared.

  • If you’ve never had Apple Pie Moonshine before, I must warn you that it’s just as hazardous as it is delectable.
  • This moonshine is created from 190 proof grain alcohol (Everclear), which means it has a lot of flavor and kick.

  • Please take pleasure in moderation.

How Do You Make Apple Pie Moonshine?

The tastes of the moonshine are blended together in a pot of simmering apple cider, apple juice, sugar, and seasonal spices for an hour before serving. (While the juice is boiling, you may listen to my Friendsgiving playlist, which you can find here.) Add the alcohol when it has cooled. The Apple Pie Moonshine is now ready for consumption. That is all there is to it. However, I recommend allowing it to stay in the refrigerator for approximately a month before serving it to ensure maximum flavor. • We’ve all been in the situation when we’ve discovered a bottle of wine hidden in the recesses of our kitchen cabinets and are unsure whether or not it is safe to consume.
  • It appears that there is no universal time restriction for the consumption of moonshine, as in the case of this bottle of the illicit beverage.
  • The answer to the question of whether moonshine can go bad or not is unambiguous — a bottle of unflavored moonshine, like other simple spirits, has an endless shelf life.
  • Although different sources will state different things, the answer is unambiguous.
  • A flavored bottle of moonshine, on the other hand, would most certainly have a shorter shelf life.
  • For those of you who are concerned about whether or not you will be able to safely consume the bottle of moonshine that has been sitting in the back of a cabinet for who knows how long, the following information will help you.

What is the shelf life of moonshine?

Most moonshines have an unlimited shelf life, which means that if you find an unopened bottle of moonshine that’s been sitting in your cabinet for a long time, you won’t have to worry about the quality of the moonshine or any potential health hazards associated with it. If the bottle of moonshine has already been opened, the shelf life is reduced to 6 months only. The distillation process is responsible for the lengthy shelf life of a bottle of moonshine that has not been opened. Moonshine, in contrast to many other alcoholic beverages, is distilled with no sugars, which implies that the liquid will not deteriorate. It’s important to remember that anything containing sugar has a limited shelf life, which is why flavored moonshine (or any other flavored spirits, for that matter) can go bad if kept on the shelf for an extended period of time. Keep in mind, however, that not all moonshines are prepared and distilled in the same manner. Because of the illegality of the drink, the production of moonshine is a contentious and difficult process. As a result, unless you make your own moonshine, the chances are that you will be drinking moonshine that is not 100 percent pure. Commercial moonshine is typically flavored with additional sugars, which shortens its shelf life and causes it to spoil sooner.

These moonshines are reported to last for years if they are not opened, but it is suggested that you drink them as soon as possible for the sake of your safety and the quality of the drink.

Signs of when a moonshine goes bad

You should be on the lookout for these warning signals if you’re concerned that your opened (or unopened) bottle of moonshine has gone bad. The flavor of your moonshine is the most obvious evidence that it has gone bad. It’s not going to hurt you to crack open the bottle of moonshine and take a drink of it. If something is wrong, you will be able to tell since the flavor will be awful. A drink of moonshine to see if it has gone bad should only be done if the moonshine has been kept, sealed, and distilled in the right manner. Keep in mind that if the moonshine was stored without a lid, and as a result, was exposed to air, the flavor of the moonshine will be affected, but this does not necessarily indicate that the moonshine has gone bad. If, on the other hand, you notice that the color or texture of the moonshine is different from what you are used to, do not drink it. If in doubt, conduct the spoon test to ensure that no food is contaminated. The spoon test is performed in the following manner: pour some moonshine into the spoon and ignite it on fire. A blue light signifies that the moonshine is safe to consume, however a red or yellow flame shows that the moonshine contains lead and so cannot be ingested.

Is it dangerous to drink bad moonshine?

A reason why moonshine is banned is because the distillation process used to make moonshine may be readily contaminated with lethal metal particles during production. No matter how long a bottle of moonshine has been in storage, it’s impossible to predict whether a specific bottle will be lethal or not. The chemicals methanol and ethanol are important to be aware of if you’re new to moonshine production: they’re both used in the process.

  • Methylethanol is a colorless alcoholic chemical that is the most basic form of alcohol known to man.
  • When combined with ethanol, even the smallest quantities of methanol may be exceedingly hazardous, and in some cases, even fatal.

Ethanol, on the other hand, is a straightforward alcohol that is perfectly safe to use in tiny quantities. If you consume an excessive amount of ethanol rapidly, this can be problematic, resulting in stomach pumps, for example. That’s why it’s important to take ethanol in modest doses, such as with a mixer or as a shot. Methanol should not be present in any significant amounts in a good batch of moonshine. Moonshine made in a faulty batch may contain traces of methanol, which makes the otherwise harmless ethanol dangerously deadly.

What does methanol do?

When methanol is eaten, it degrades into formaldehyde, formate, and formic acid, among other things. Methanol, to put it in the simplest terms, can cause irreversible blindness since it attacks and destroys the visual nerve. This occurs mostly during the consumption phase, although it can also occur during the distillation procedure. Methanol has the potential to be lethal in the worst-case scenario. This is due to the fact that methanol does not have any flavour, making it impossible to determine if a drink includes it or not.

The presence of methanol in moonshine is the primary cause for its prohibition. You must obtain a bottle of moonshine from a known and respected dealer who has followed the distillation procedure to the letter. If you want to drink moonshine, you must drink it straight.

How to store moonshine

You should never consume a whole bottle of moonshine by yourself, as this is not a safe practice with any alcohol. This is why you should learn how to preserve moonshine correctly in order to consume it safely afterwards. If you’re wondering whether or not moonshine has to be refrigerated, there is no correct answer to this question. There are those who like to refrigerate their moonshine in order to keep the alcohol cold and away from sunlight, but there is no evidence to suggest that unrefrigerated moonshine is harmful to your health. However, this is only applicable to pure moonshine; a bottle of flavored moonshine that has been opened will need to be chilled in order to extend its shelf life further. Due to the fact that the refrigerator’s coldness delays the oxidation process, which in turn slows down the rotting of the sugars contained inside the flavored moonshine, this is true: Take note that this only applies to opened flavored moonshine bottles and that an unopened bottle of flavored moonshine can last for years regardless of whether it is kept in a refrigerator or out of a refrigerator. Whether you keep moonshine in plastic or glass is immaterial when it comes to the taste of the alcoholic beverage. Unless there is an open flame nearby, moonshine will not burn through plastic containers. When it comes to long-term storage, however, glass containers are the best choice. The easiest approach to store moonshine is to keep it away from direct sunlight. This is due to the fact that UV rays will pass through the container (whether it is made of plastic or glass), thus “cooking” the moonshine and significantly shortening its shelf life. People often store their moonshine at the back of a dark, chilly cabinet to avoid this problem.

What about moonshine in the heat?

  • Having established why moonshine cannot be exposed to direct sunshine, we may go on.
  • What about the heat, though?
  • As long as the moonshine has been properly proofed, sealed, and stored, the temperature of the storage room in which it is kept should not be a factor in its preservation.
  • It will not spoil in the usual sense;
  • but, the flavor of the moonshine will be altered as a result of the process.
  • This is due to the fact that the heat will separate the compounds contained inside moonshine, resulting in a new chemical arrangement and a change in flavor.
  • For individuals who don’t care about the taste of moonshine, this will not be a significant issue.
  • Those that do, on the other hand, will need to preserve their moonshine in a cold and dark environment.
  • The best place for this is a wine cellar or a cold basement.

Can I freeze moonshine?

So, we all know that moonshine changes flavor when exposed to heat, but what about when exposed to frigid temperatures? Moonshine contains a high alcohol by volume (ABV) of around 40%, which implies that it must be stored in a very cold environment to effectively freeze. A conventional freezer is unlikely to be sufficient, as moonshine requires a temperature of -235 degrees Fahrenheit to be entirely frozen.

Even if it does freeze, it is more probable that the water content in the moonshine would freeze first, followed by the alcohol, resulting in a stronger moonshine with a greater alcohol by volume (ABV).

Can flavored moonshine go bad?

While pure moonshine may be kept for an unlimited period of time, flavored moonshines have a significantly shorter shelf life. Pure moonshine, like other pure spirits, is distilled for an extended period of time until it has zero percent sugar content, ensuring that it will not deteriorate. In contrast, flavored moonshine relies on sugar for its flavour, which means it will deteriorate over time if not consumed immediately. This sugar content can be derived from either artificial sweeteners or from the sugar found in fruits and vegetables.

What about moonshine mixed with fruit?

Moonshine that has been blended with fruit will have a much lower shelf life than pure moonshine on the market. It has a shelf life of several years if kept unopened and properly preserved. If the container is unsealed, the shelf life is reduced to approximately 3-6 months in the refrigerator. People sometimes overlook the fact that fruit contains a high amount of sugar, which is only accentuated during the distillation process. Evaporation is the primary reason that moonshine blended with fruit goes bad so rapidly. Once the container or bottle has been opened (or if it has been repaired), the alcohol will gradually evaporate as a result of the exposure to the air surrounding it. This may take some time, but the consequences will become apparent after a few years, when the contents will just vanish from sight. It is only when the flavored moonshine is exposed to heat and light that the evaporation process will be accelerated up, as this will act to reduce the alcohol concentration and lessen the flavour. Oxidation is also caused by prolonged exposure to air. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that alters the atomic makeup of moonshine, resulting in a sour taste in flavored moonshine as a result of the reaction. It will also reduce the shelf life of the product.

Final words

That’s all there is to it. In the event that you have properly preserved your bottle of pure moonshine and obtained it from a trustworthy vendor, the shelf life of the alcohol is virtually limitless. Storage of flavored moonshine in the same manner will result in a shelf life of around two to three years. Because of the sugar content and exposure to air, the shelf life of flavored moonshine is reduced to around 3-6 months after it has been opened. The world of moonshine is a volatile and difficult one to navigate. Given the difficulty in determining if a bottle of moonshine is harmful or not, some people are willing to put their health at risk in order to determine whether the alcohol is safe to consume. It is impossible to overstate the importance of purchasing and consuming moonshine from a trustworthy dealer when it comes to legal drinking. Moonshine must be distilled, bottled, proofed, and kept correctly in order to avoid the chance of the moonshine becoming contaminated with harmful bacteria. Even worse, it’s difficult to tell whether the moonshine includes methanol, which may cause blindness or even death if consumed in large quantities.

When it comes to ingesting moonshine, there are several dangers to consider. Keep in mind that you must adhere to the rigorous guidelines for preserving open and unopened containers of moonshine!
