My husband’s grandpa has been making this mixed drink, or flavored beverage, for years, and every man in the family gathers in the basement to enjoy it while laughing, telling jokes, and drinking it. It is also presented as gifts to all of the adults in the family so that we may all enjoy sipping and savoring it throughout the year. Once the jars are opened, you can store this drink in the refrigerator to enjoy cold (I believe it tastes better cold), and it will keep for the entire winter season (or longer).

The Everclear we drink is 195 proof (95 percent alcohol), which means it is quite strong.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Apple Cider– This recipe calls for one gallon of apple cider, which you can find here. What you will get in the United States when it comes to apple cider is somewhat different from what you will find in the UK. Apple cider in the United States is just apple juice that has been little processed. Apple cider is a fermented alcoholic beverage in the United Kingdom, although in the United States it is not. In the United States, this is referred as as “hard apple cider.” Because it is sweeter and you will already be adding a significant amount of strong alcohol to the dish, you should use unfermented, non-alcoholic apple cider or apple juice in this recipe
  • Otherwise, you should use apple juice. Cinnamon sticks– Whole cinnamon sticks will be simmering in the apple cider in your slow cooker while you cook the rest of the meal. Over an extended period of time in order to truly infuse the cider with a good cinnamon spice taste. In order to alter the flavor profile of your final moonshine, you can experiment adding different warm type whole spices such as a few of cloves, nutmeg, cardamon, or other similar spices
  • Everclear Grain Alcohol or Vodka– For the greatest results, you should seek for Everclear grain alcohol or vodka, which is 190 proof and the closest thing you can get to distilled moonshine. The sale of moonshine and Everclear is restricted in several states in the United States (California, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Washington, North Carolina, New Hampshire and Minnesota), owing to the extremely high alcohol level of these beverages. As a result, if you are unable to obtain Everclear or another high proof grain alcohol in your area, you may use a good quality vodka in this recipe.


  1. Fill a 5-quart or bigger slow cooker halfway with apple cider and cinnamon sticks. Preheat the oven on low heat for 8 hours. Remove the slow cooker from the heat and allow the cider to cool to room temperature before using. After the apple cider has been allowed to cool to room temperature. To begin, open the top and pour in the Everclear (or vodka, if you’re using it)
  2. Fill five 1-quart canning jars (or bottles of your choice) halfway with apple pie moonshine and screw on the lids and rings just until they are finger tight
  3. Set aside. To ensure that the alcohol absorbs the taste of the cider, store them in a cold, dark area for 30 days. Keeping this on the counter or, if you want it cold, in the refrigerator, is not a problem because it is shelf stable
