Moonshine has a proof of 180 to 190, which means it contains around 85 percent to 95 percent pure alcohol.

Real Moonshine

Technically speaking, true moonshine is any type of alcoholic beverage that is produced in secret in order to avoid paying alcohol taxes and the legality of distilling one’s own liquor. Moonshine in the United States is typically created from four simple ingredients: Technically speaking, true moonshine is any type of alcoholic beverage that is produced in secret in order to avoid paying alcohol taxes and to escape the legal ramifications of distilling your own alcohol. Typically, four basic components are used in the production of American moonshine.

The Distillation Process

Distilling is the process of taking a fermented beverage that contains around 10-15 percent alcohol by volume and eliminating the water in order to leave a higher proof alcohol in the bottle. Because alcohol boils at 173 degrees Fahrenheit and water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit, if you raise the temperature of your liquid to around 175 degrees Fahrenheit, you may collect the alcohol as vapor and leave the water behind. It is unlawful in the United States to distill your own liquor without obtaining specific permissions, which are quite hard to get for the average individual.

Don’t even think of trying to make your own booze at home!

Apple Pie Moonshine Recipe

  • 1 750ml bottle of 190 proof Everclear (or other grain alcohol)
  • 2 cups spiced rum (80 proof)
  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • 1 quart apple juice
  • 1 750ml bottle of 190 proof Everclear (or other grain alcohol). 3 cups brown sugar, 1 cup white sugar, 10 cinnamon sticks, and a pinch of salt

In a large stockpot, combine the apple juice, apple cider, and cinnamon sticks and bring to a boil. Simmer the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugars are dissolved. Stir the mixture occasionally until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove the pan from the heat and cover it to allow the mixture to cool to room temperature on its own. Remove the cinnamon sticks from the mixture and stir in the grain alcohol and rum until well combined.

Keep the moonshine in mason jars (because what else would you use to store moonshine?) in the refrigerator. After a few years of aging, the spices, fruit and sugar in the apple pie moonshine will have mellowed the alcohol flavor to a lovely, pleasant warmth.

So How Much Alcohol Is In There?

The ultimate alcohol percentage of the moonshine may be calculated with a little bit of mathematics. It’s as simple as taking the alcohol percentage by volume of each component and dividing it by the entire volume of the recipe, then multiplying the result by 100. The ingredients are: 750ml of Everclear, 473ml of rum, 946ml of apple juice, and 3785ml of apple cider (in that order). As a result, the calculation is as follows:* 100 = 15.1 percent ABVOur apple pie moonshine contains around 15 percent alcohol by volume, which is 30 proof.

So proceed with caution and don’t be fooled by the fruitiness!

Serve with a fresh apple slice as a garnish and over ice, if desired.

Recipe Variations

  • Make your own own spice blend by combining any or all of the ingredients. Cinnamon is the most important spice, and it may even be used on its own. Replace the nutmeg and cloves with 4 to 6 allspice berries or a pinch of ground cloves. 1/2 teaspoon allspice berries (ground)
  • As an alternative to moonshine, 2 cups 190-proof grain alcohol and 1 cup vodka can be used. Combine the two ingredients and then blend in the apple cider. To get a well-balanced taste, start with an equal amount of the homemade moonshine and cider. Depending on your preference, you may increase the amount of either component. Due to the greater alcohol level, the drink will naturally have more bite.

How Strong Is Apple Pie Moonshine?

  1. Sweetened apple pie moonshine is a homemade alcohol that is prepared from apple pie. When you dilute 100-proof moonshine with apple cider, the potency of the resulting concoction is reduced to around 70 proof (35 percent ABV). Basically, it’s the same as flavored vodka, but it’s a lot stronger than your usual liqueur (40 proof). This is a good range for a drinking liquor that doesn’t burn too much when taken directly from the bottle. With the grain alcohol-vodka combination, the “moonshine” will be around 116 proof (58 percent ABV), depending on the amount of grain alcohol used.

This recipe has received a rating. This does not sit well with me. It’s hardly the worst case scenario. Yes, this will suffice. I’m a fan, and I’d suggest it. Amazing! It’s fantastic! Thank you for your feedback!

Homemade Apple Pie Moonshine

This recipe has been rated. This is something I strongly disagree with. Fortunately, that isn’t the worst possible situation. Yes, this will do just fine for now. My opinion is favorable; I would suggest it. Amazing! Wow, that’s fantastic. Thank you for giving us your feedback.

Honestly, the homemade Apple Pie Moonshine recipe I came up with is delicious! It’s smooth yet has a kick. It can sneak up on you.

Due to the fact that I do not have a still in my backyard… I use Evercleara as the foundation for this and all of my moonshine recipes, and it works flawlessly every single time! Why not prepare a batch of this delicious Apple Pie Moonshine, which is simple to produce and much easier to enjoy. Make some for yourself and some to share with others. That jar of this is sure to be a hit at the upcoming Chinese Auction or gift swap you may be attending. It’s a fantastic culinary gift idea! One quart-sized jar of the product I was purchasing cost around $26.00.

I started adding apple chunks to my recipes a couple of years ago to give them a little additional taste.

The apple pieces become extremely soft when the mixture has chilled, so I crush them into the liquid with a potato masher before straining the liquid into another saucepan before adding the Everclear.

Tips on Making Apple Pie Moonshine

  • The higher the quality of your ingredients, the better the outcome. I prefer to use farm fresh apple cider when I can get it, as well as organic apple juice
  • I also like to add one or two Honeycrisppears to the recipe, which I chop into bits and cook with it. Mash them up afterward for added taste and to include little pieces of apple
  • You can experiment with the amount of sugar you use. The sweetness of apple cider, as well as the sweetness of apple juice, varies. When it comes to sweetness, the more alcohol you end up adding, the less sweet it will be. Do not add your alcohol until the combination has cooled (if you add it when the mixture is still hot, the alcohol will disperse a little)
  • Always taste and adjust the next day after the mixture has been allowed to chill. Increase the amount of alcohol to make it stronger, and increase the amount of apple cider if you think you’ve made it too powerful
  • I store this in the freezer. Keep in mind to allow a little headroom at the top of your containers/jars! Depending on how powerful your moonshine is made, it will either freeze, become slush or not freeze at all, depending on how long it has been in the freezer. If it does happen to freeze, it will defrost rather soon. It’s very refreshing to have a little slushy, mmmm
  • This, these, and this are some of my favorite jars to use for all of my moonshines and boozy recipes. If you like peaches, you’ll enjoy… Try my Fresh Peach Moonshine for a refreshing drink.

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 64oz/ 8 cups apple cider
  • 64oz/ 8 cups apple juice
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar a couple of dashes of nutmeg a couple of dashes of ground cinnamon
  • 6 full cinnamon sticks, broken in half, toasted Optional: 2 Honeycrisp apples, sliced into 2 inch pieces
  • 1 750ml bottle Everclear 80 to 151 proof
  • 2 Honeycrisp apples, cut into 2 inch chunks It all depends on how strong you want it or how much grain alcohol you want (start with half a bottle and work your way up from there)
  • Bring the cider, juice, sugars, and apple chunks (if used) to a boil in a large pot, then add the spices and continue to simmer for another 10 minutes, slightly lowering the volume. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool fully
  • Once the mixture has reached room temperature, mash up the apples with a potato masher (if you want to include them) and filter the moonshine through cheesecloth. Add in the Everclear and give it a good swirl. I can’t always tell how powerful anything is until it’s been cold. Any additional Everclear or, if you feel the cider is too powerful, additional apple cider may be added at any time. A fresh cinnamon stick is placed in each container by me as a standard practice. This recipe will fill approximately 4-5 quart-sized mason jars. Store the moonshine in a cool garage or refrigerator to preserve its quality. Before you start pouring, give it a brief shake. Putting this in the freezer an hour or two before serving or going somewhere is a good idea for me. I serve it as shots in smapp shooter cups
  • It goes down well.

Notes from Colleen: This recipe may easily be doubled or even tripled. It is not required to include the spice, especially if you get an apple cider with a strong flavor. The spices give it a nice kick that I enjoy. It’s all up to you. Keeps well in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks or longer (depends on how fresh your cider was). About an hour before drinking, I prefer to store it in the freezer. You can absolutely make this stronger by adding another half-bottle (or less) of Everclear, or you can make it weaker by adding more cider.

Play around with it until you get the bite/flavor you want.

  • 8 cups apple cider
  • 4 cups apple juice
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 12 whole nutmeg
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar 1 pound Granny Smith apples, cored and sliced into wedges
  • 1 750-milliliter bottle moonshine (100-proof unaged corn whiskey)
  1. Combine the apple cider, apple juice, sugars, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg in a large saucepan until well combined. Prepare a quick simmer and cook until the liquid is reduced to 4 cups, approximately 2 hours. Allow it cool fully before adding the other ingredients to the saucepan and stirring to incorporate. Refrigerate overnight after covering with plastic wrap. The next day, strain the apple pie moonshine through a fine mesh strainer, removing all solids save the cinnamon sticks. Divide the moonshine and cinnamon sticks between two mason jars and place them somewhere safe to keep them. You may drink it right away or store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.

Apple Pie Moonshine

This is a basic recipe for the famed apple pie moonshine, which can be found here. Making apple pie moonshine is quite simple, and you don’t even need to use moonshine (though you can’t really call it apple pie moonshine until you use moonshine).

Ingredients:

1 gallon of fresh apple cider 1 gallon of freshly squeezed apple juice 3 cups granulated sugar 8 cinnamon sticks (about) 1 liter bottle of 190 proof moonshine or grain alcohol (optional).

Directions

  1. Combine the apple cider, apple juice, sugar, and cinnamon sticks in a large stockpot and bring to a boil. Bring it to a boil, then remove it from the heat and let it aside to cool a bit
  2. Add one liter of high strength liquor to the mix. Pour the mixture into mason jars, cover with lids, and let aside for a few days to mellow. Even if you may drink it right away, it will taste better after a few of weeks.

It creates approximately 9 quarts of apple pie moonshine from this recipe. If you find that this recipe is too much, you can easily cut it in half.

Warning! Apple pie moonshine will sneak up on you! This stuff is so smooth and tasty.Use with CAUTION!

To produce apple pie moonshine, you can use 190 proof grain alcohol like as Everclear or, if you can’t obtain moonshine, you can use regular grain alcohol such as rum. The majority of the moonshine that you’ll come across has been reduced to about 80 proof. This means that you’ll need to use slightly more than twice as much 80 proof moonshine, or around 2.5 liters, to get the same alcohol level as you would if using grain alcohol instead of rum. That is, unless you are very certain that it is 190 proof (in which case you probably know the dude that made it.)

Everclear:

Everclear is available at two different proof levels: 190proof and 151proof. In certain states, you may only purchase the 151 proof version of the product. There are a handful more states where it is outright prohibited. Take a look at this list of states (provided by Wikipedia): Proof (190 Proof) In the United States, it is illegal to sell the 190-proof variety in the following states: California, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Washington, West Virginia, and Virginia.

Moonshine Quick Tip:

By looking at the “bead,” you may obtain a general notion of how potent the moonshine really is. Check out how quickly the bubbles vanish when you shake up a bottle of vodka. This is referred to as “checking the bead.” The higher the concentration of alcohol in the drink, the faster the bubbles evaporate. A significant number of bubbles will develop in 190 proof liquor and will dissolve practically rapidly, but the bubbles in 80 proof liquor will be smaller, foamier, and will take longer to disperse.

Take a bottle of high-proof liquor, such as Everclear, and give it a good shake.

About Apple Pie Moonshine:

Getting Everclear was the first step in making my Apple Pie Moonshine, and it was a time-consuming process. Everclear, you’re right. I make an effort not to be exposed to such material. Something to do with aScorpionsconcert at Red Rocks when I was a youngster, I’m quite sure. As a matter of fact, Everclear isn’t even anything that comes to mind when I think about it. This Apple Pie Moonshine, on the other hand, is completely safe since I fiddled and faddled and meticulously constructed it so that your glassful will only contain around 12 percent alcohol, which is a little more than a beer but more in line with a mixed cocktail.

  1. You want just enough alcohol to preserve the food, but not so much that it knocks you out of your shoes.
  2. I’m talking about c’mon.
  3. If Apple Pie Moonshine doesn’t conjure up images of crisp autumn nights spent in a moonlight wood, snooping around in the shadows, I don’t know what would.
  4. You know it had to be good since you’ve seen it before.
  5. Additionally, cinnamon, clove, and allspice are used.
  6. Serve over ice or slightly warm (in a Slow Cooker, for instance).
  7. One thing you should know about Apple Pie Moonshine is that it contains alcohol.

Don’t even bother tasting it; just throw it away!

Ideally, you should wait at least two weeks before using it.

If you forget about your Apple Pie Moonshine and keep it at the back of a dark cabinet for a couple of months, it’s like!

Also, if you cook it this week, you can serve it to your Thanksgiving guests when they are all watching the game together on the television.

When making apple or pumpkin pie, a small amount of this would be wonderful in the whipped cream!

Making Apple Pie Moonshine:

First and foremost, I needed to obtain some Everclear in order to produce my Apple Pie Moonshine. Everclear, you’re correct. I make an effort not to be exposed to such material.. • If you want to preserve food, you don’t want to use too much alcohol since it will knock you out cold!
  • Please, don’t make me laugh.
  • Nothing about Apple Pie Moonshine makes me think of crisp fall nights spent in a moonlight wood, living just beneath the radar, so I’m not sure what will.
  • The fact that you know it has to be good is obvious to everyone else.
  • Along with the traditional spices such as cinnamon, clove, and allspice Num!
  • Besides that, I made several little drinks that I didn’t photograph, such as warm Apple Pie Moonshine in cups with some whipped cream and caramel sauce drizzled on top.
  • At first, it’s somewhat rough around the edges.

After some time, it becomes more mellow.

If you have the patience to wait, magic will happen, and it will only get better from here!

Apple Pie Moonshine

  • 1/2 gallon (2 quarts) apple cider, ideally cool
  • 1/2 gallon (2 quarts) apple juice, split
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 long or 4 little cinnamon sticks
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 allspice berries
  • 1 1/2 cups Everclear, 190 proof
  • One-half-gallon of Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum

Using a medium-sized saucepan, combine two cups apple cider with the sugar, cinnamon, and other spices and boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove the pan from the heat and pour the mixture into a big pitcher. (The pitcher will need to be larger than 1/2 gallon in capacity.) Stir in the remaining cider until well combined. Assuming the cider is cold, at this point the mixture should be cool enough to add the alcohol; if it is not, wait until it reaches room temperature before adding the alcohols.

Store the Apple Pie Moonshine for two weeks to allow the flavors to blend, and then filter through a coffee filter, preferably twice.

Keeping it in a dark, cold area for at least two weeks is recommended; it keeps indefinitely and just grows better with time.

Notes:

  • It’s possible that a frothy material is floating on the surface of the pitcher’s surface. However, it will dissolve right back into the cider within a day or two if not skimmed off immediately. Initially, this batch was not strained, but later on, the silt accumulated on the bottom and was really unappealing in both flavor and texture. There was still a little quantity of silt that settled later after two strainings
  • Nevertheless, it was minimal. This recipe contains little more than 12 percent alcohol, which is around the same amount as a RumCoke. A serving is equal to 5 ounces.
