The Still House is where our delectable Sugarlands Shine is created, with one foot firmly set in the past and the other firmly placed in the present. Corn and rye are ground into meal in our handcrafted stone burr mill, which is then combined with Smoky Mountain water before being transferred to our large oven. From there, the liquid is transferred to the fermenter, where it is allowed to simmer for a few days before being strained. Eventually, the “wash” is poured into the copper pot still, where it is boiled and distilled until it becomes alcoholic.
After cooling in the chilling column, the vapor is dumped into the Spirit Safe for collection, testing, and tasting.

Sugarlands Distilling Company launches expansion with $20 million Kodak facility
When Greg Eidam has a good idea, he doesn’t do things half-heartedly. Several years before the COVID-19 outbreak, Eidam, the master distiller ofSugarlands Distilling Company, was compelled to increase the company’s operations. That process of growth has already begun. It celebrated the opening of its second manufacturing plant on Friday, a 59,000-square-foot facility in Kodak, Tennessee. The distillery, barrelhouse, laboratory, and bottling room are all part of the projected $20 million project.
The first step, according to Eidam, is to get started.
Eidam expects the plant to be the fourth-largest distillation facility in the state once it is done, and it will employ more than 40 people when it is completed.
Surging spirit sales sped up expansion
It was with a strong desire to develop Roaming Man, the Tennessee straight rye whiskey brand owned by Eidam that he chose to create another Sugarlands factory. However, the demand for alcohol during the epidemic put a strain on the company’s moonshine supply, which required more product to be produced quickly in order to keep up with demand. It used to be described as “grabbbling at the tail of a tiger and trying to cling on,” but these days, it’s more like “catching a rocket,” according to Eidam.
“The difference between a decent distiller and a great distiller is the ability to produce a superior product on a consistent basis.
It’s time-consuming and extremely slow “Eidam shared his thoughts.
A whiskey that stands up to stiff competition
Sugarrlands inventions such as the Maple Bacon Moonshine and Strawberry Dream Sippin’ Cream are the work of Eidam’s imagination. However, as a self-confessed whiskey connoisseur, he desired to add something a little more serious to Sugarlands’ already impressive collection. That’s why he createdRoaming Man Tennessee Straight Rye, an award-winning, cask-strength whiskey that has received several accolades. In order to accommodate the lengthy production process, just two batches of Roaming Man bottles are normally available each year.
Roaming Man will be accessible in stores and bars across the country in the coming years, thanks to Sugarlands’ world-record-breaking new pot still and 22,000-cask barrelhouse, according to Eidam.
In the end, “we’re doing all we can to make a better whiskey, and that’s worth it, even if it isn’t the most cost-effective or efficient method and is extremely labor-intensive,” Eidam said.
In the future, “we’ll be able to conduct some pretty complex work,” Eidam explained, “which is not normal in most distilleries.” It’s true that we don’t have 50 to 100 years of barrel-aging expertise, but we’re determined to make up for lost time.
High spirits for the future
- Throughout the years to come, Eidam and the Sugarlands team will continue to improve and expand their company’s brands as well as the overall business. Sugarlands will begin distilling vodka in 2022, and the company will increase production of its existing products, which include Sugarlands Shine, Appalachian Sippin’ Cream, and Roaming Man Whiskey, among others. Special releases, ranging from playful tastes to luxurious libations, are expected in the coming months, according to Eidam. Sugarlands’ Gatlinburg shop will provide new client experiences including as tastings and tours, while manufacturing will be moved to Kodak’s facility in Nashville, Tennessee. When it comes to the Kodak plant, Eidam said he hopes to eventually build a shop area so that fans of the brand can purchase bottles and go on tours. “There are at least 15 distilleries in Sevier County today, and there may be more,” Eidam told Knox News. “But nothing will be like this,” he added. “It’ll be a one-of-a-kind event for East Tennessee.”
